June saw the sad loss of one of film’s most iconic composers: James Horner. Penning the scores to some of Hollywood’s most ubiquitous hits has meant that his compositions are deeply ingrained in the very fabric of popular cinema. Think Braveheart, Titanic, Apollo 13 and Avatar; big, unashamedly blockbuster soundtracks that were responsible for shaping a generation’s film memories. From the fragile and intimate to the booming and epic, Horner’s music was always capable of capturing fleeting emotions perfectly. Here, independent filmmaker Nelson Carvajal has made a video essay celebrating some of Horner’s best known work:
